Raw dog food, local delivery

Canadian Raw

A Calgary maker of biologically appropriate raw food for dogs, delivering across the city and surrounding Alberta. The business changed hands because the old website did not sell. The new owners hired us, online orders became the engine of the company, and they are now expanding their delivery area and launching new products.

The challenge

Raw dog food is bought on a schedule, delivered locally, and chosen by owners who read every label. The site Canadian Raw had before did none of that. It was a single page with a logo, one photo and a "Learn more" button. No store, no prices, no way to order. Customers had to call or message, and most did not bother. Online sales were so thin that the former owner ended up selling the company. The new owners kept the recipes and the customer base, and the first thing they did was call us: they needed a website that could take recurring orders, charge them automatically, explain the product properly and handle delivery around Calgary without confusing anyone at checkout.

What we did

We rebuilt Canadian Raw as a Shopify store built for repeat orders, added online financing and automatic billing, then did the local SEO and the AEO and GEO work that now gets it found on Google and recommended by ChatGPT. Here is what that involved.

From a one-page brochure to a store that sells

We built the store on Shopify with two product lines the way customers think about them: complete diet and raw meaty bones. Each product page lists what is in the food, how much to feed by the dog's weight, and how it is packed and frozen. Prices are on the page and the cart works on a phone. The old site made people ask. The new one lets them buy.

Subscriptions, automatic billing and delivery zones

Most raw feeders order the same thing every two to four weeks, so subscriptions were the core of the build, not an add-on. A customer picks a product, a size and a frequency, the order repeats and the card is charged automatically until they pause it. No invoices to chase, no reminders to send. Shipping rules cover Calgary and the surrounding communities, with free delivery inside the city. That structure is what took repeat orders up 44%.

Financing at checkout

Larger orders, like a month of food for two big dogs, can be split into four interest-free payments with Afterpay. It is a small line at the top of every page and it removes the one reason a bulk order gets abandoned.

Product education that does the selling

The people who buy raw dog food want to know what is in it. We wrote the product and diet pages around that: 90% meat, muscle and bone, 10% fruit, vegetables and seeds, Canadian-raised meat, no hormones, antibiotics, fillers or preservatives. A news section answers the questions new raw feeders ask, from how to transition a dog to how much a large breed eats. Plain answers, no marketing fog.

Local SEO for Calgary

Every page has one job in search. The home page targets "raw dog food Calgary", the diet page targets "BARF dog food Calgary" and the delivery page targets "raw dog food delivery Calgary". LocalBusiness structured data ties the store to the city, the Google Business Profile matches the site, and a reviews widget puts customer feedback on every page. The store now sits in the top three on Google for "raw food for dogs Calgary".

AEO and GEO: the first name ChatGPT gives

Ask ChatGPT where to buy raw dog food online with delivery in Calgary and Canadian Raw is the first store it names, ahead of the big pet retailers. That is not luck. AI assistants quote sites that state facts plainly: what the food is made of, where it is delivered, what it costs, how to order. We put those facts in the page copy, in Product and FAQ structured data, and in an FAQ section written in the same words customers use. Google got the store found. This got it recommended.

Where the business is now

Online revenue is five times what it was with the old site. The owners are expanding their delivery area beyond Calgary and launching new products, and the store handles both without a redesign: a new zone is a shipping rule, a new product is a page. That is the point of building it properly the first time.

"The previous owner sold the company because the website did not sell. The new owners called us, and the same products, sold properly online, changed the business. Five times the monthly revenue with the same recipes, and now they are growing into new areas."

Key takeaways
  • A one-page site with no store is a brochure. For a product people buy every month, that is a missed order every month.
  • Subscriptions with automatic billing and local delivery zones are the core of a raw dog food store, not extras. They drove a 44% rise in repeat orders.
  • Plain, factual product copy (composition, delivery area, pricing) is what gets a store recommended by ChatGPT, not slogans.
  • Online revenue went up 5× with the same products, and the owners are now expanding coverage and launching new lines. The website was the problem all along.

Questions about this project

What was wrong with the old Canadian Raw website?

It was a single page with a logo, a photo and one button. There was no store, no pricing and no way to order online, so customers had to call or message. Sales through the site were close to zero, and the previous owner sold the company partly because of it.

Does Canadian Raw deliver raw dog food in Calgary?

Yes. Delivery is free within Calgary and available in the surrounding communities, and the delivery area is growing. Subscription orders repeat every two to four weeks and are billed automatically.

What does BARF mean?

BARF stands for biologically appropriate raw food. Canadian Raw's recipes are 90% meat, muscle and bone and 10% fruit, vegetables and seeds, made with Canadian-raised meat and no hormones, antibiotics, fillers or preservatives.

Can customers pay in instalments?

Yes. Orders can be split into four interest-free payments with Afterpay at checkout, which makes bulk orders for large dogs or multi-dog homes easier to manage.

How much does a Shopify store with subscriptions, automatic billing and local delivery cost in Calgary?

Our Store Launch package starts at $4,490 CAD for up to 25 products. Subscriptions with automatic billing, delivery-zone rules and local SEO are part of Store Growth, from $7,490 CAD. Both include Canadian taxes and shipping setup.

Why does ChatGPT recommend Canadian Raw?

Because the site states the facts an assistant needs in plain text: what the food is made of, where it is delivered, what it costs and how to order, backed by Product, FAQ and LocalBusiness structured data. That is the work we call AEO and GEO.
